There’s so many people that argue that anime is not what the haters make it out to be. They fight the idea that anime is a gate-way into crap art, and that it is not true that anime has bad anatomy/everything.

Well, they are right. All those reasons why anime is hated on are just excuses that…

Well there is that but it’s not the entire reason OTL” I remembered being critiqued by a crazy realism artist fan and told me that I should never draw in anime form at all. My anatomy was so-so but it needed work at the time and I was younger, but I never knew why he just went so berserk on a 13 year old who had better anatomy skills than most the same age as me. (not trying to brag but it’s true, I was drawing seriously since I was 8) So honestly I think they’re just after younger artists who just start out drawing with anime style who has no knowledge of anatomy whatsoever. (which is a bad idea because even if you start out with realism as opposed to anime style your anatomy will be crap too) Same thing with those who has little to no knowledge of composition and color use, which is learned AS you grow and become better at your own pace. I don’t see why they do it like that because eventually the person will learn how to use elements of art as they improve. You can’t expect someone to be so great at something without them ever learning and experiencing first.

A year ago, somebody close to me and I got into an argument that hasn’t ended yet. They feels intense jealousy, hatred, sadness, fear and pain whenever they even look at my artwork and/or the programs I want to use or even when I mention the subject matter. This affects our relationship so…

This friend isn’t really your friend then.. D; If they’re starting a fight over YOUR artwork, something that you work passionately towards, then they aren’t your friend. They do not control your life. Just like it’s unfair for them to change for you, it’s unfair for you to change for them. It’s not going to work out even if you stop because I’m sure they’re going to keep some grudge against you even after the fact. You don’t change for anyone because they can’t accept what you do. Heck, why are you even changing for them? Why are they so special that they need you to change for them? That’s unfair. This isn’t the first time I have seen someone close to a person oppose their passion for drawing; and every single case the person kept on going with art even when the person doesn’t like them drawing like that. So it’s not your fault. Keep going with art and forget about the person who’s just trying to make you change. They don’t control you.

The book is basically about an anorexic little boy who starts hearing voices coming from his food. I’ve done some concept art and a couple of drafts, but I don’t know how to continue this in a way it doesn’t seem as scary as it comes off as…

That is a terrifying story if you do think about it in that way…. but it shouldn’t keep you from drawing artwork for the book! I understand that you don’t want your artwork to be associated with something that sounds a little macabre because I don’t want to associate my artwork with macabre things either… but I think it would be nice to go outside the box once in a while..(?) If you know what I mean.. ; U ;”
You’re never too young to illustrate a book :) As long as you have the skills to, I think you should go for it~ It’ll be something nice that you can look back on (despite the story line) so you should try it even if you don’t want to.
